West Kirby Metal Detecting Club
Code of Conduct
Members of the above club, by paying to become members, agree to:
1.Abide by any club rules or decisions
2.Obtain, either through the club or individually, Public Liability Insurance through the NCMD or FID
3.Abide by the law as regards the Treasure Act and other laws relating to metal detecting and the finding of valuable items.
4.Report any unusual historic finds to the Finds Liaison Officer at Liverpool Museum.
5.NEVER detect on scheduled sites or other recognised ancient monuments.
6.When detecting with the club or when otherwise representing the club:
a)Dig and fill in holes correctly so as to leave as little mess as possible. Be particularly careful when digging on grass- ensure that turf is replaced (use the three sided hole method)
b)Only go on land permitted by the landowner and do not trespass on any other land. Keep to paths whenever possible.
c)Stay off fields with crops unless given permission by the landowner. If walking across fields with crops keep to the edge.
d)Do not disturb livestock or wildlife.
e)Do not leave litter of any kind.
f)If digging up unwanted items (foil, iron, bottle tops etc.) keep said items to throw away in a responsible manner or, in the case of large heavy items, dispose of carefully at the base of a nearby hedge. Do NOT re bury unwanted items.
g) Close gates behind you.
Remember, when you are out detecting, with or without the club, you are an ambassador for the hobby
Anyone failing to keep to the above Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the club.
